Today’s Special is an initiative that harnesses the skills and generosity of the food, hospitality and catering industries to bring about positive change.
Set up by some of the hospitality industry’s own, our first project in 2020 raised £250,000 to support vulnerable people during the first Covid-19 lockdown.
Last summer, prizes from the food and drink industry’s leading lights went up for grabs via Today’s Special, a huge online charity auction that was (in true 2020 fashion) streamed live on Zoom.
Together we raised more than £250,000 that went to two charities, Action Against Hunger and Hospitality Action. Helping to feed those most in need in the UK and around the world, and support hospitality’s most vulnerable people.
Co-hosted by Great British Menu’s Andi Oliver and Oliver Peyton with a ‘live’ auction by auctioneer Tom Best, the event offered the public the chance to bid on money-can’t-buy experiences from a host of great chefs and the nation’s favourite high-end and high-street restaurants.
Today’s Special is organised by Hawksmoor’s Huw Gott, Pho’s Marketing Director Libby Andrews, and social purpose agency Purpose Union, with support from Contented Brothers. A celebration of the strength, breadth, character and resilience of the hospitality industry, Today’s Special has been made possible by the generosity of chefs and restaurants across the UK. The event will raise vital funds for two incredible charities whilst at the same time providing a slice of fun home entertainment and giving the lucky bidders some fantastic experiences to look forward to in the coming months.
